Leopard Print as a Neutral

So I have always had a thing for my leopard print ballet flats. I faithfully replace them every couple of years when I wear them out but I never thought of them as a neutral before. But as I have been dutifully shopping in the name of the blog (or at least thats what I tell myself) I have seen cheetah and my new love, leopard, everywhere. I have seen cute baseball caps, cute sweaters, cute clutches, and my personal favorite cute sneakers. Below I rounded up my personal favorites and reviewed two of the products I tried.

Fall Finds- Denim Edition

While I am sad to see summer go there is literally nothing I like better than fall. Why I regrettably do not like anything pumpkin flavored, I love halloween, I eat candy corn like its a vegetable and I love booties. So in honor of fall I have rounded up some of my favorite deals on boots/booties, jeans and sweaters. First I am going to start out with a great denim round.

Jeans

Levi 721 Jeans

Price- $98- on sale for $49.98

These are the sister jeans to the #bloggerfavorite 721 ripped knee jean of last fall and winter. They are an amazing fit and are great for someone who wants a high waisted jeans but is not sure they can pull off the mom jean. I find that if they have more than 2% stretch in them I wear a 25. If they are between 98-100% cotton I wear a 26. Also a big plus is they have many different lengths at at 5’10” I can wear either the 30-32 inch inseam.

Grlfrnd Helena Jean

Price- $210, on sale for $147

These are a great 100% cotton jean that I personally like better than revolve. The straight fit allows for a cool chic vibe with sneakers, booties or heels. They are supposed to fit snug at first so if you are in between sizes like me (I normally wear a 25-26 just depends on the brand) go with the smaller size. They stretch to fit you perfectly and are definitely worth the money to get that vintage jean vibe!

Mother High Waisted Looker Ankle Fray

Price- $235, on sale for $164.50

There is nothing better than a pair of Mother denim, especially when they literally are more comfortable than leggings and hold their shape. I prefer their high waisted models which are more like a mid-rise to me. These jeans are so soft and are worth the price! I normally wear a 25 in Mother denim.

Articles of Society- Sarah Ankle Skinny Jean

Price- $59 (there is a very similar pair on sale for $38.40 but there is a very limited size run)

These jeans are another great staple and even full priced are very reasonable. They come in a variety of colors and styles, plus they are super stretchy. I wear a 24 in this brand as they have a tendency to majorly stretch out. Also keep your eyes peeled at the rack as they often get tons of this brands jeans and shorts.

Fall is here and so is Chloe!

So its no secret that I have a “slight” handbag addiction. And recently I have been loving Chloe. Their bags are the perfect fall transition bag. And I happened to just snatch up a small chloe drew for $635. Yes you read that right for $1,215 off retail! I saw this baby on Fashionphile and had to have it!

I knew I wanted the small sized Chloe Drew bag after admiring it at my local Nordstrom. Like all good handbag designers (I am looking at you Celine) they try confuse you with the sizing. The Drew ranges from the nano to the medium with two sizes in between- the mini and the small. The small is the second biggest size of the Drew and arguably the most popular size.  The small is quiet large and roomy but is not too big and or too small for my 5’10” frame. Plus it comfortable fits my two iPhones and my wallet making it the perfect cross body.

In honor of my latest great handbag find I have rounded up some other great Chloe bags (all below retail) for you all to peruse and maybe purchase!

Wedding Season is Here!

As soon as you get into your twenties- especially your mid-twenties- every summer becomes wedding season. Whether its a cousin, an old friend or a new at least one wedding will happen, as it has for me for the last four years. And every single time I am left with the question of what to wear. So below are some of my pointers and then a ton of cute different dresses if you don’t want the hassle of finding your own.

Pointers

1- Make sure to follow the dress on the invitation– If the bride and the groom specifically state that the wedding is black tie optional then I strongly encourage you to follow what they say. Its never fun to be the person who sticks out like a sore thumb because they did not bother to read the invitation. If the invitation is silent about the dress code then I always recommend wearing what you would want people to wear to your wedding.

2- Jumpsuits are okay– The jumpsuit has really evolved and with a cute pair of heels can definitely be worn to a wedding. So if dresses are not your thing then a jumpsuit is a great dressy option.

3- Wearing (some) black to a wedding is now allowed– My friends and I recently had this discussion and came to the conclusion that some black in your attire for a wedding is okay. For example if you have a dress (like I did above) that has a black background and a pattern on top then that is fine. Also if it is a black tie wedding more and more guests are keeping it simple and chic with a beautiful black dress.

4- NEVER EVER WEAR WHITE– I do not care if the bride dresses her bridesmaids in white (which I have actually seen at two weddings now) DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, take that as an invitation for you to wear white as well. I would also generally state that this applies to off white colors as well. Its the brides day and even if she is a calm person in the stress of the moment she might be very very unhappy with you.

Giveaway Time- Jord Wood Watches

Its time for my first ever giveaway and I could not be more excited! I have partnered with Jord watches to give to one lucky winner a $100 giftcard and for everyone else a $25 gift card so make sure to keep your eyes out for the video coming soon on Instagram! But for now you can enter the contest here!

Plus its right in time for mothers day AND graduation so why not spread the love and get a deal?

Celebrating graduation with a watch is a family tradition in both my boyfriend’s and my family. A watch is something that one wears everyday and really can class up an outfit making it the perfect gift for a grad. With a Jord watch one can just as easily wear it to a first job or out to grab drinks with a friend. (And in case you do not want to style it yourself I have included two on trend ways to style the watch below!)

Jord watches first drew my attention when I realized that they were made of wood. These are just some of the reason why I love this watch

1- So many different wood types- Jord watch bands come in so many different types of wood- there is zebrawood, sandalwood, and Koa wood just to name a few. Most watch straps are metal or leather but not this one! This is the watch I have and I love it – https://www.woodwatches.com/series/frankie-35/zebrawood-and-navy/#bargainhuntingblonde

2- They make both men’s watches and women’ watches- plus I feel that a lot of the designs are neutral enough that either men or women could wear them.

3- Coolest looking box ever- no need to wrap it if you are giving it as a present!

4- There are a ton of different watch face shapes and colors- there are round ones and square ones and big ones and small ones (and I feel like with that sentence I was writing a Dr. Suess novel).

Luxury Wooden Watch

Finally its shorts weather!

Shorts weather- most people dread the heat but there is literally nothing I like better than the heat and a good pair of short shorts to go with it. So naturally I have quiet a collection and have tried out every type of short. My personal new favorite this year is the slightly longer high waisted short, but I also cannot deny I spend just as much time wearing my low rise distressed short shorts. Linked below for you guys are my favorite shorts with my opinion on them.

Levi 501s Shorts

Pros- great variety of colors and levels of distressing; $69.50; make your butt look great just like vintage denim without being vintage

Cons- run small (I go up at least a size); can be an awkward length depending on your height; are much shorter in person than in picture

Mother Denim- Rascal Fray Short

Pros- run big (its always nice to wear a smaller size); sooo soft and stretchy; stretchy but do not stretch out

Cons- pricey ($188); not a lot of color variety

One Teaspoon- Bandit

Pros- lots of color variety; very popular right now; can be a very flattering short short

Cons- every pair runs differently (so I recommend buying from a website or store where you can return); also on certain body types the baggier cut is not flattering; $99

Madewell- High Rise Denim Boyshort: Button Through Edition

Pros- cute detailing; very stretchy and soft; $74.50

Cons- only one color in this style

THESE ARE MY NEW FAVORITE!!!!

How To Get the BEST Deals at the Nordstrom Rack

So if you all haven’t notice I have a Nordstrom Rack Addiction. But to be real who doesn’t love the rack? A “Rack attack” is one of my favorite weekend hobbies. I can routinely be seen in my local rack spending wayyyyy to much money and saving a bundle . But even with all the savings, you still have to be smart about what your buying at the rack. Some items are created exclusively for the rack while other items come straight from Nordstrom. Below are my tips for navigating the Rack.

Being Aware of All the Great Brands Nordstrom Rack Carries

When most people think of discount stores like the Nordstrom Rack, Off 5th, and T.J. Maxx the often think of outdated merchandise that didn’t sell last season and no one wants. But if you are a fellow discount shopper you know this to be completely untrue. The Nordstrom Rack carries in-season clothing, designer merchandise and deals! For example I love brands that Revolve or ShopBop sells such as Mother Denim, Tularosa, and Flynn Skye.  Luckily for me Nordstrom Rack carries all three and at discounted prices. For example, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mother denim (I love them so much I am even willing to pay full price for them). I just recently purchase a pair of black “Looker” jeans at the rack for $24 dollars.

It is almost important to take note that not all of the brands the Rack carries are brands that were originally carried in Nordstrom. The Nordstrom Rack has exclusive brands such as Melrose and Market, Abound and Harlowe and Graham. This brands can often be a good way to get on trend pieces for cheaper but it means when they go on sale the savings are not so great.

Knowing What a Red Tag Means

Red tags are my holy grail. These tags indicate that these items are on clearance and have been discounted even further from their retail price. These are also the items that go on sale for 25% off during clear the rack time. (Or even further like now till May 14th all red tagged boots and coats are 50% off). The one thing that you have to remember with red tags if you see something you like buy it and do not wait for the next clear the Rack. Red tagged items have a tendency to disappear quickly so snatch up that item you were eyeing.

One of my best red tag finds was a pair of Rag & Bone jeans. Retail on the specific pair was $218. I paid literally just a penny. To this day it goes down as my best find ever.

Deciphering the Savings

Almost all of the tags at the Nordstrom Rack will have the retail price listed on them. Most of the tags even have the % savings from retail to the marked down price. But do not always take that at face value. I found a leather jacket at the rack on clearance during clear the rack that said it retailed for $238 and it was now on sale for $80. While this is still a good deal I did a quick google search and found out the jacket retailed for $750 when it was at Nordstrom. Moral of the story is if you really like an item but are worried it is not discounted enough do a quick google search to confirm that retail price listed is actually the retail price.

Location, Location, Location

Each Rack receives different merchandise on different days of the week and at different times. Racks that are in more affluent areas (such as mine in Palo Alto) have a tendency to get higher end merchandise. I have especially noticed this when it comes to the shoes that a store carries. I have bought numerous pairs of Chloe flats, Rag & Bone Booties, Jimmy Choo heels and VINCE sneakers at my rack.

90 Day Return Policy

While the Nordstrom Rack doesn’t have the Nordstrom return policy, it does have a pretty good one. You have 90 days from the day of purchase to return the item if it is not worn. You can even return it without a receipt as they can look it up by your credit card number. This is especially crucial if you see an item you are on the fence about. As I said before if you see something at the rack buy it because if you go back even an hour later it is likely to not be there and knowing you have the ability to return it makes the decision to purchase easier.

The Power of Hautelook

Hautelook is basically the Nordstrom Rack online with timed events. (Also note that the Rack has a website but I often find better deals in store.) Hautelook has different events each day that are either centered around a brand or theme. They have events for women, men and children and for a variety of brands. Some of my favorite past events have been Levi, Sam Edelman, and Equipment. The key with Hautelook is to add the items you like to your cart immediately as it saves them for 15 minutes. Plus my tip is to always spend over $100 to get free shipping since it is easy to return the items via mail or to your local Nordstrom Rack. This is especially helpful for people who do not want to comb through the Rack or the Rack’s website for specific brands.

Tops for a Cold Spring

As many have noticed while it is officially spring its still solidly winter weather in a lot of different places throughout the US- the Bay Area included. So while I keep buying very cute spring dresses and rompers, I keep wearing sweaters, jackets and jeans. But the good news is that most winter clothing is on sale which means big savings! Below I have linked some of my favorite sweaters and jackets including some sweaters that are 50% off and Rails flannels at 56% off! Also I wear the flannels all year around and they are soooooo incredibly soft- like really its amazing!
